Stephen retired from the firm in 2023 after 46 years of practice.
Stephen was raised in Richmond, Virginia and attended public schools in Chesterfield County. Thereafter, he attended the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1973, followed by a Juris Doctor from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary in 1977.
The scope of his practice is quite broad and includes litigation, both civil and criminal. In addition, he handles residential and complex commercial real estate, and serves as counsel to approximately 100 closely held corporations and limited liability companies. He regularly appears in the Courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia throughout the Central Virginia Region, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court, United States Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Virginia, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
He has held Martindale Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent rating since 1995. Mr. Conte was recognized in 2006, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 by Virginia Super Lawyers in the field of personal injury litigation.
